Officials said William F. Butler rear-ended a car at a red light on Church Lane near the intersection with Whitby Avenue. The collision sent the struck car forward into the back of another vehicle, authorities said.
Police claim Butler fled the scene. His car was later located on Philadelphia's South 70th Street near the intersection with Chester Avenue.
While police were towing his car, authorities said Butler "displayed signs of alcohol intoxication, was in possession of the keys, and later acknowledged being in the vehicle at the time of the accident."
"Butler became combative with police while being processed on the arrest and, in addition to making threats of violence against law enforcement, he damaged one of the newly refurbished holding cells at the police station," Yeadon police wrote.
He was charged with terroristic threats, reckless endangerment, and related offenses, the department said.
